Earth Summit Historical Background
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the Rio Summit, Rio Conference, Earth Summit was a major United Nations conference held in Rio de Janeiro from the 3rd of June 1992, to the 14th of June 1992.
An outcome of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), 'The Rio Earth Summit', was Agenda 21.
Twenty years later the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) was also held in Rio in June 2012, commonly called RIO+20 or Rio Earth Summit 2012 focusing on a "green economy" agenda.
- A roundatable discussion (workshop) entitled "RIO+20" was held in parallel to the RETBE'12 Conference on the 22nd of December, 2012.
- The workshop established a network between the participants and the stakeholders from the three teams to overview and enriches the discussion and output of the workshop.
- A follow-up workshop was recommended.
- As an outcome, the Alexandria Declaration has been set "Alexandria-RIO+20 Workshop Agenda" ARWA
